    EcoDesign Ready Stoves

    May 22, 2017
    22 May 2017

A new standard in super efficient and clean-burning stoves is being made available now, well ahead of the 2022 target.

The Stove Industry Alliance (SIA) is driving this standard forward and it means customers of new stoves can benefit from higher efficiency stoves now. It also means you can do your bit for the environment by either replacing an open fire or old woodburner with one of these new models.

    From the SIA website

Ecodesign is the European-wide programme to lower emissions. It is due to come into force in the UK in 2022. The main manufacturers in the SIA have decided to release stoves that will meet the lower emission limits now, and from 2020 to only manufacture wood-burning stoves that meet the new Ecodesign criteria, two years ahead of schedule.
As with HD ready TVs the Ecodesign Ready label will inform consumers that the stove will meet the new stringent emission limits.

    Chimney Sweeping A Must

    September 10, 2013
    10 Sep 2013

Stove owners must remember to have their chimneys swept at least once a year as recommended by HETAS and NACS. Ours installers will give you a run down of the do’s and don’ts of using a woodburning stove and chimney sweeping is an important part of the information we give our customers.

A clean chimney will make your stove work safely and more efficiently.

We have seen chimney liners virtually blocked  by tar and bitumen after just 2 years of operation. Our customers are astonished that a this amount of blockage can occur in such a short time.

It is also critical that an old chimney is swept before a liner is fitted in order to reduce the risk of a chimney fire when the stove is in use. We always sweep a chimney before we fit a liner regardless of previous use.

This week is Chimney Fire Safety Week – see here

Volatile Gas Market Demonstrates Need To Diversify

    March 8, 2013
    08 Mar 2013

A spike in wholesale gas prices prices this week caused debate into whether the UK needs to accelerate it’s decarbonisation of our energy sector.

This Carbon Brief article reports on the cause of the spike and likely outcomes.

Adopting a decarbonisation target could be one way to encourage investment in renewable technologies over gas at the same time as providing the UK with greater energy security

Weaning ourselves off the reliance on gas is a tough road and in the short and medium term, the consumer is going to bear the brunt of these fluctuations in gas market prices.

Households face much higher energy bills for years to come

    February 19, 2013
    19 Feb 2013

The UK is facing much higher energy bills in the years to come owing to over-reliance in the UK on imported gas.

This Guardian article reports on the issue facing UK households.

In the UK there are about 6m households in fuel poverty, which is set to rise to 9m by 2016

Given these worrying facts, it will become even more important that households can take some control of their energy bills, particularly heating, in the years to come. A wood burning stove is one of the ways that this can be done, along with better insulation and other forms of renewable energy systems.
